Cinder Cone
Cinder Cone Trail
The Cinder Cone Trail climbs an extinct volcano north of Snow Canyon’s main entrance. From the trailhead beside Diamond Valley Drive, the route follows the highway briefly before curving around the cone and beginning a steady series of switchbacks toward the rim. This is a difficult trail – very rocky, making it easy to lose your footing. Be careful.

More About Cinder Cone Trail
The final ascent is steep, loose, and exposed, gaining roughly 500 feet before reaching the crater rim. From the top, hikers can look across Snow Canyon, Diamond Valley, and toward the Pine Valley Mountains while circling the remains of the volcano.
Expect sharp lava rock, ledges, minimal shade, and loose footing. Wear sturdy shoes, carry water, and follow the switchbacks rather than shortcutting the cone’s fragile slopes. Leashed dogs are allowed.
