Gila Trail

The Gila Trail is Snow Canyon’s longest and most demanding route, tracing high benches, slickrock, sandy stretches, and boulder-strewn canyon bottoms along the park’s eastern side. The changing terrain provides broad views into the main canyon and access to quieter portions of the park.

More About Gila Trail

This backcountry-style route requires strong route-finding skills and careful preparation. Expect minimal shade, uneven slickrock, loose sand, and substantial elevation changes. Carry abundant water, avoid the hottest part of the day, and allow most of a day for the full out-and-back route.

Several park trails intersect Gila, including Scout Cave and Whiterocks, so shorter segments and connector hikes are possible. Remain on the designated route to protect fragile desert soils and wildlife habitat.

You can see Gila Trail on our Snow Canyon map.
