Tortoise Walk
The Tortoise Walk is a short, accessible interpretive trail beginning near the Upper Galoot parking area. The smooth crusher-fines path follows a gentle route through desert tortoise habitat, with signs explaining how these protected animals survive in Snow Canyon’s hot, dry environment. The walk is about 0.15 miles each way and ends at a shaded seating area with a large granite tortoise sculpture.

More About Tortoise Walk
Designed for visitors of many ages and abilities, this compact trail follows a smooth crusher-fines surface for about 0.15 miles each way. Interpretive signs explain how desert tortoises survive in one of North America’s hottest and driest environments.
Snow Canyon State Park lies within the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, which protects Mojave desert tortoise habitat. Visitors should observe tortoises from a respectful distance, never handle or feed them, and stay on designated paths.
The walk ends at a shaded seating area with a larger-than-life, 4,200-pound granite tortoise sculpture. The trail begins at the Upper Galoot parking area near Snow Canyon Drive.
